The work visa process for MiM graduates in the UK is a common concern, and understanding it is essential to plan your career path after graduation.
For MiM graduates in the UK, the most common visa option to work after completing your degree is the Graduate Route visa. This visa allows you to stay in the UK for up to two years (or three years if you have a Ph.D.) after completing your MiM program. During this period, you can work at any skill level or be self-employed, giving you the flexibility to explore different career opportunities.
To apply for the Graduate Route visa, you need to meet a few key requirements:
1. Completion of your MiM degree: You must have successfully completed your degree at a UK university that holds a valid Tier 4 or Student visa sponsor license.
2. Application from within the UK: You must be in the UK when applying for the Graduate Route visa, and your application must be submitted before your current student visa expires.
3. Payment of the visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): The application fee for the Graduate Route visa is £715, and you will also need to pay the IHS, which is currently £624 per year.
If you wish to stay in the UK longer than the two years allowed by the Graduate Route visa, you can switch to a Skilled Worker visa if you have a job offer from a UK employer that meets the visa criteria. The employer must hold a valid sponsor license, and the job must meet the required skill and salary thresholds.
