MS in Information Systems at Penn State Program Description

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) is a STEM-designated program that equips students with advanced technical, managerial, and analytical competencies required to strategize, plan, design, and manage strategic IT initiatives that enable an organization to achieve strategic business objectives and create a competitive advantage. This designation allows eligible graduates an Optional Practical Training (OPT) extension for up to 36 months, facilitating the acquisition of additional real-world skills and experiences.

The MSIS offers high flexibility to accommodate both full- and part-time students. In order to provide flexibility for students, some courses are also offered online or in a hybrid format (i.e., a blend of resident instruction and online). Prospective students are encouraged to contact the program office for information on specific semester course offerings.

Data Analytics Track: The objective of this Track is to provide the student with data analytical skills that enable them to gain data insights and transform data into strategic decisions.

In consultation with their adviser, a student in this Track shall select 9 credits from the following:

Data Analytics Track: The objective of this Track is to provide the student with data analytical skills that enable them to gain data insights and transform data into strategic decisions.

In consultation with their adviser, a student in this Track shall select 9 credits from the following:

Core Courses

The M.S.I.S. degree program requires, excluding pre-program requirements, 30 credits of course work at the 500 or 800 level, with a minimum of 18 credits at the 500 level. The M.S.I.S. degree requires 9 credits of prescribed courses:

INFSY 535 Object-Oriented Design and Program Development in Business (3)
INFSY 540 Information Technology and Knowledge Management (3)
INFSY 554 Master’s Project (3)

Students are also required to take 15 credits of Information Systems courses from an approved list available in the program office. Students also must take 6 credits of electives from the 500-level courses offered by Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Business Administration. The INFSY 554 Master’s Project course involves development of an original master’s project in the student’s field of interest and preparation of a scholarly paper.

MS in Information Systems at Penn State Scholarships available for International Students

Catherine and Mark Loevner Scholarship and the B.J. and Barbara Walker Scholarship
Penn State Behrend awards two scholarships, the Catherine and Mark Loevner Scholarship and the B.J. and Barbara Walker Scholarship. Students planning to enroll or already enrolled in the MBA program who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement may apply.

Both new and current students are considered for these scholarships, which are typically $1,000-$2,500 per year. Priority is given to students who are not already receiving tuition reimbursement from their employer and who demonstrate financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

To apply: Complete the FAFSA and submit the online scholarship application. Selected recipients will be notified by the Office of Student Aid.
