Yes, XLRI accepts GMAT scores for Indian students, but only for specific programs. Indian applicants can use their GMAT score to apply for the PGDM (General Management Programme), also known as XLRI PGDM (GM). It’s a one-year, full-time MBA for professionals with at least five years of work experience.

For the flagship two-year PGDM programs (BM and HRM), GMAT is accepted only from NRI/foreign nationals—Indian students living in India need to take the XAT.

One thing many miss is  if you’re applying through GMAT for PGDM (GM), make sure your score is from within the last five years as per the program deadline, not just the application start. Also, XLRI doesn't follow sectional cutoffs like CAT—so a strong overall score matters more.

A lot of confusion happens because XLRI has multiple programs, and they don’t all follow the same rule.

  • GMAT is accepted from Indian citizens only for the one-year PGDM (GMP) program.
  • For the two-year PGDM (BM and HRM), GMAT is valid only for NRI or foreign nationals. Indian residents must take XAT.
  • The minimum work experience required for GMP is five years, calculated as of March 31 of the admission year.
  • Your GMAT score should not be older than five years at the time of application.

For the GMP round, make sure to select the correct program code when sending scores to XLRI, many applicants get delayed because of this. Double-check the program eligibility before registering requirements change slightly each cycle.
