This is an interesting question. It&rsquo;s good to see that you are concerned about placements even before applying or shortlisting schools. 
To be honest, university rankings matter to a great extent. If your university is ranked #1 or even #5 globally, companies would obviously pick you over somebody from a university that is ranked #50. 
Rankings are not just a marketing number used by universities but it shows how well the university has been doing over the years in terms of faculty, curriculum, student-support facilities etc. 
So you should definitely consider the university rankings while shortlisting your options. But well, rankings shouldn&rsquo;t be your holy grail either. There are various other parameters that you need to consider as well like your country preferences, finances, eligibility, return of investment etc.
