IELTS is an English language proficiency test that is used by universities abroad to judge your ability to read, write and understand English. It is one of the most accepted examinations but definitely not the only accepted exam. Other English proficiency tests include TOEFL, PTE and Duolingo.

There are various universities that do not require any additional language proficiency tests, but even in that case, there are other requirements that you must fulfil.
For example, universities in UK do not require IELTS or any other language proficiency test score, but the condition is you must have had an English-medium bachelor’s degree and you must have scored more than 75% in English in your class 12th.

So, IELTS is definitely not the benchmark for getting a masters admit abroad.
