Should i hire a consultant if i’m  aiming for mfin from  mit and  ucla?

mit and ucla mfin are tough to get into. if you  have got a strong profile , like 3.6+ gpa, gmat focus 680+, and solid finance internships,  you can probably apply on your own. but if you are more mid range around 6.8&ndash;7.2 gpa, 620&ndash;650 gmat, only basic audit or accounting work then getting outside help makes sense. consultants cant fix scores, but they do push essays and help with school choices so you dont waste a round. if you are confident in writing  try solo, otherwise a consultant is worth it for schools at this level.

i wanted ucla mfin mostly because of the mix of finance with tech opportunities there. my profile wasnt that strong  about 7 gpa from DU, 635 gmat focus, one audit internship and some basic finance work. i tried mimessay since i wasnt sure how to show why ucla made sense for me. their feedback was blunt sometimes, like cutting out whole sections, but it did push me to be clearer about my goals in the essays. i didnt get into every school i applied to, but i did make it into ucla, which was the one i cared about most.

i was aiming for top places too (ucla was on my list). first time i applied on my own and didnt even make it to interview. second round i went with mimessay. they were clear that schools like mit might be a bit out of reach for my profile, so we added some tier-2 mfin programs along with my dream ones. that way i didnt waste the round completely. i ended up getting into smu mfin, so it turned out better than my first try.

mit and ucla are both super competitive for mfin. if you have got very strong scores gpa and solid finance experience, you can try on your own , it is possible. but for most people, the essays and positioning matter as much as numbers. thats where a consultant can add value, by showing how your profile fits what the schools want. it wont guarantee an admit, but it can make your application  better. if you are unsure it might be safer to use one, at least for your dream schools.

If you are confident about writing and know what these schools expect you can handle it yourself. but if you are unsure how to frame your story or connect your goals to the program getting a consultant might actually save time and stress.
