Here is a list of the best universities to pursue an MS in Data Science -

the Technical University of Munich
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München
RWTH Aachen University
Freie University of Berlin
University of Gottingen
University of Mannheim

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPLYING -

1.A VALID BACHELOR’S DEGREE-  The first eligibility requirement for MS in Data Science or master's in data analytics in Germany is that you must have a Bachelor's in the computer sciences (computer sciences or business informatics), economics or mathematics (applied mathematics or business mathematics.

2. APTITUDE TESTS - Indian students may be asked for GATE scores by some universities. Other data science universities in Germany may ask for your scores from  GRE or GMAT. Some top universities in Germany for MS in data science may also require students to take an entrance exam. Therefore, it is essential to check with the university.

3. LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TESTS-  most public universities require German proficiency at a B2 level by the Common European Reference for Languages. However, some  Universities may also require a certificate of a higher C1 level. Apart from proficiency in German, students are required to produce English proficiency scores in IELTS  (6.5 or above) / TOEFL (80  or above).

4. CONSISTENT GRADES-  German Universities, especially concerning technical courses like MS in Data Science, are highly competitive. To stand out from the crowd, you will be required to display consistently high grades for your Bachelor’s degree.

TIPS FOR LOR -

1. The best way to make your recommendation letter impactful is to keep it straight and honest. There should be a complete sketch of your accomplishments. The factual description of your characteristics should be complemented with anecdotes whenever possible.

2. Generally, for the Master's Program also, three LORs are required, preferably two academic and one professional. The academic ones should be taken from teachers who have taught you at your undergraduate level. The professional one can be taken from your immediate supervisor/team leader.

3. Note that the recommenders should be able to outline your assignments and responsibilities, highlighting different aspects such as your business and managerial skills, intellectual ability, leadership potential, maturity, work ethic, etc.

Germany offers excellent opportunities for studying data science, especially at public universities known for their robust research and practical learning approach. Key institutions include the Technical University of Munich, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and RWTH Aachen. These universities provide programs either in English, German, or both.

To apply, you’ll need to gather several documents:

Academic transcripts and certificates
Proof of language proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS for English; DSH, TestDaF for German)
Letter of Motivation (LOM): This should detail your academic interests, professional goals, and reasons for selecting the program and university.
Letters of Recommendation (LOR): Typically, two or three are required. Select recommenders who can attest to your academic prowess and suitability for the program.
The application process usually takes place online through the university’s portal or via platforms like uni-assist, which processes applications for numerous German universities. Deadlines vary, but generally, applications for winter semesters close around July 15, and for summer semesters around January 15.

For the LOM and LOR:

LOM: Explain your background, your career objectives, and why you are a good fit for the chosen program. Keep it concise and relevant to the program’s objectives.
LOR: Should come from faculty or professionals who can discuss your academic abilities, research experience, and personal characteristics.
Check each university’s website for specific admission requirements and application guidelines. German universities are known for their rigor and require a strong foundation in mathematics and statistics, so make sure your application highlights these skills and your readiness for the program.
