The majority of German universities and degree programs only offer instruction in German. If you want to attend a local public university, you must be able to speak German.

There are language requirements for students who want to enrol in a German-taught course or degree program. Taking a test may prove that you are proficient in German. Examples of acceptable testing include:

  • TestDaF (Test of German as a Foreign Language),
  • DSH (German Language University Entrance Examinations for International Applicants)
  • GDS (Goethe Institut German Language Diploma)
  • DSD ( Level II)

Since they will be studying German, students taking courses for one or two semesters may not need to take a German language competence test. This is not the case for those who want to stay longer and pursue higher education. In that scenario, you must provide documentation of your proficiency in German before you depart from your residence.

It doesn't mean you're doomed if you can't communicate in German; you can learn! Even if you didn't study German in high school, there are many wonderful alternatives to learning the language.

Universities in Germany have recently started offering English-taught courses to accommodate the rising number of overseas students. An upsurge in English-speaking students seeking degrees from Germany's top universities has been noted. African students studying in Germany for their undergraduate and graduate degrees include some of these remarkable brains.

However, it is strongly advised to have some fundamental German language abilities even if you plan to study in English. If you can properly communicate in their language, you will be able to interact with the locals.

You can travel using public transportation if you learn German. You'll have no trouble shopping at the grocery or anywhere else. Making friends and assimilating into German culture will be possible for you.

In the long run, it will benefit you to learn the fundamentals of German. Particularly valid if you intend to stay behind for employment or relocate to Germany. It's not just the national tongue of the place you'll be studying and residing.

The official business language in Germany is, of course, German. Some businesses utilize English as their official language, but not many.
