No, of course not. You do not need to have a German language understanding to study LLM in Germany. The country is very famous for higher studies and has many English-taught universities. You can find many LLM and other law-related courses there in Germany that are taught in English. The German language is certainly very good and useful, but it’s not a necessity to study here.

For example, I can list the universities that have very good Law courses, including LLM in Germany that do not ask for any other language than English. Basically, all you need to do is find these universities and look over their programs. Here are my recommendations -

  1. LMU Munich
  2. University of Freiburg
  3. Humboldt University Berlin
  4. Heidelberg University
  5. University of Hamburg

Believe me, there are many other universities in Germany that have LLM programs taught in English. These are just the best ones I can recommend. Like LMU Munich and the University of Freiburg are your two very best options. These two universities in Germany are quite famous and their degree holds more than the other ones. We both know how much it is to have a good degree in law.

Generally, many top-tier law firms only hire applicants from certain universities. You will later find out how a good school name is important for lawyers and legal workers. In many cases, the university itself sends its graduates to some big law firm for internships. It’s the reason why I recommended only the top 5 options. After the mentioned two, the lower three are also very good universities in Germany.

If you are not able to find the best options for you in Germany, you should take the FREE SCHOOL EXPLORE QUIZ here to find your best options. With this, you can be sure that the universities you see are suited for you and the best ones as per your profile.  Let me know how it works out and if you want any other insight from my end.
