Hey, So basically you took two years of the gap before applying to Master's if I am not wrong. Do not worry, you can still apply to some universities abroad. Which country are you targeting though?

To be honest, the Maximum gap year acceptable is one year however, you have to state a genuine and convincing reason for two years. Let them know if you were working on some internships, or jobs or learning something new during this period, you can also mention some crises, and COVID situations that might have impacted your studies, but please be true and genuine about the reasons.

REASONS ONE CAN LIST -

Financial problems – This is an unavoidable situation and needs to be resolved before admissions.

Family issues – This plays a big part in career decisions. Family issues could be in terms of the health conditions of family members or the general household ethos being unpleasant etc.

Jobs and Internships – Pursuing a job or an internship may add a lot of value when it comes to admissions. Many students opt for a job experience of 1 year to increase their chances of admission as it sets them apart from the rest of the applicants.

Sometimes students are enrolled in some short-term certification courses which allow them to improve their skill set and get an edge over the rest of the applicants.

Other activities like voluntary work or hobbies like art and music – Voluntary work or social work is a good reason to take a gap year. Hobbies and other extracurricular activities can help a lot in personality development which plays a big part in creating a good impression.

I hope this helps. Please let me know the course and university you are targeting to get more details!

In the visa interview, focus on your academic and professional developments during the gap years. Highlight any work experience, skills development, or community involvement that has prepared you for this next step in your educational career. Make sure to articulate how the master’s program fits into your long-term career objectives and why this is the right time for you to undertake this study.
