It is common to work part-time while pursuing a masters program abroad.

UK especially, as the cost of living in the UK can be tremendous. It is not a cheap country for a quality lifestyle. UK institutes generally allow upto 20 hours of part-time work per week. The earning potential in this much time is not huge but manageable.

It is often seen that students want a little more earning opportunity during their masters in the UK. However you should realize that the focus of your visit is your higher studies. On a general basis, a student can earn around 5-10 pounds (equivalent to INR 500-1,000) hourly. This reflects a total of 100-200 pounds (around INR 10-20k) per week, hence around 400-800 pounds (around INR 40-80k) a month.

The major professions in the UK for international students pursuing masters are; fast-food joints, departmental stores and call centers. Fast-food joints and departmental work are among minimum wage paid work and often grants around 5 pounds an hour. These jobs does not require any specific skills and responsibilities. Call centers are mostly a bit demanding profession as it requires good communication skills. The job paids around 7-9pounds depending on the location and organization.

Many students earn more than the mentioned amount through operational work. Though it is good to earn a little more, losing focus on your program can cost you a quality return on investment (ROI). Part-time earnings is for support only, keep it that way.
