GMAC allows you to take the GMAT up to 5 times within any 12-month period. That includes both the GMAT Focus Edition and the older format. You’ll need to wait at least 16 days before scheduling your next attempt, even if you cancel the score.

Across your lifetime, the total number of attempts is capped at 8 times. This includes all tests you’ve taken—whether you sent the scores or not. Once you reach that limit, you won’t be allowed to register again.

Students often ask whether retaking the test multiple times affects their application. Schools will see all your valid scores, but most of them consider only your highest score, that’s why many candidates choose to retake the test after improving their prep.

The most updated GMAT policies are listed on the official GMAT website. Checking it before planning your test attempts will help you stay within the limits and avoid wasting an attempt.

You can take the GMAT up to five times in a 12-month period and up to eight times in total in your lifetime. You must wait at least 16 days between each attempt.

Most students don’t need that many tries. In fact, many improve their scores with just one or two retakes especially if they review their mistakes and change their prep strategy.

Also schools usually focus on your highest score, not how many times you took the test so don’t worry too much if you’re learning and improving, that’s what really counts.

GMAC allows you to take the GMAT exam up to 5 times in a rolling 12-month period. That means from the date of your first attempt, you can take it 4 more times within the next 12 months.

In total, you can take the GMAT a maximum of 8 times in your lifetime. These rules apply to both the old GMAT format and the new GMAT Focus Edition, according to the official mba.com policy.

There must be a 16-day gap between two attempts, so you can’t retake the test immediately. Also, all your scores—including cancellations—count toward your lifetime limit, so plan your attempts wisely.

Before booking, it’s always best to check the latest policy directly on GMAC’s website. That way, you can schedule your test attempts smartly and avoid wasting one of your limited chances.

You can take the GMAT up to 5 times in a 12-month period and 8 times in your lifetime. This limit applies to both the classic version and the new GMAT Focus Edition, as per official rules from GMAC.

There’s a 16-day gap required between two test attempts, which means you can’t retake the exam back-to-back in a short window. This rule helps ensure you get time to review and improve before your next attempt.

Schools can see all your official scores from the past five years but remember  most programs only consider your highest score, and some even let you explain your progress over time.

You’ll find this policy clearly listed on the official GMAT website (www.mba.com). As long as you stay within the limit, you’re free to try again, refine your prep, and work your way toward a better score.
