Most candidates should aim to complete approximately four to six full-length GMAT practice exams before the actual test. However, the number of papers matters less than the quality of the review conducted after each attempt.
Begin with one diagnostic test to establish your current score, section-level performance and timing weaknesses. Do not take another full mock immediately. Spend time improving the concepts and reasoning methods identified in the diagnostic test. During the middle of your preparation, complete two or three additional mocks at suitable intervals. Use the results to assess whether your accuracy and pacing are improving.
During the final stage, take two official full-length practice tests under realistic conditions. Follow the official section timing, use only the permitted calculator functions and avoid interruptions.
After every test, review incorrect, guessed and time-consuming questions. A candidate who carefully analyses four tests may improve more than someone who completes ten papers without understanding their mistakes.
