How does the job market for MSBA graduates compare to that of MBAs in business analytics?

The job market for MSBA is more technical and focused on hands-on data roles. Most MSBA programs, like the one at MIT Sloan, prepare you for jobs such as data analyst, product analyst, and machine learning associate. These roles often require knowledge of Python, SQL, and tools like Tableau — which MSBA courses teach in-depth. Schools like MIT report close to 100% placement for MSBA grads in companies like Amazon, Google, and McKinsey.

When it comes to MBA in business analytics,it is broader but less technical. These programs focus more on leadership, strategy, and business decision-making. For example, Wharton’s MBA grads with an analytics focus usually go into consulting, product strategy, or digital transformation — not pure data science roles. They’re hired more for managing teams or projects, not for coding or building models.

Companies do hire both, but they look for different skill sets. MSBA grads are hired for building solutions. MBA grads are hired to lead teams and apply insights from those solutions. So, the title, salary, and work can be very different  even within the same company.
