You don’t always need a GMAT score to apply for an MSBA — many top schools have made it optional. Programs like the one at MIT Sloan clearly state that submitting a GRE or GMAT score is optional. This means your application will still be reviewed even if you don’t include a test score.
Some schools even mention that a test score won’t improve your chances much. For example, USC Marshall officially says that the MSBA is test-optional, and no preference is given to applicants who submit scores. NUS (Singapore) also allows applicants to apply without GMAT or GRE if they show strong academic or work experience.
You may still want to submit a score if you think it adds value to your profile. Schools like Duke Fuqua and Northwestern MSIA mention that strong test scores can help in competitive cycles, or if you’re applying from a non-quant background. So, it’s not required but in some cases, it can support your application.
Always check the admissions page of the program you’re targeting, as policies change every year. But overall, most MSBA programs today are flexible with the GMAT and they focus more on your academics, projects, and work experience.
