IELTS scores have recently become a crucial admission requirement at many U.S. colleges and universities, but they do not guarantee your visa.

There are a large number of American institutions that don't require the GRE, GMAT, or SAT and instead accept applicants based on their GPA, employment history, and IELTS scores:

  • Brandeis University
  • Ball State University
  • Hawaii Pacific University
  • Auburn University - Auburn
  • California State University - Fresno
  • Columbia University
  • California Institute of Technology
  • Central Michigan University
  • Case Western Reserve University
  • Georgia State University
  • Eastern Michigan University
  • Fairleigh Dickinson University
  • Florida Institute of Technology
  • North Dakota State University
  • Harvard Business School

Many more colleges in the U.S. accept students based on their academic standing, employment history, and IELTS score rather than their GRE, GMAT, or SAT scores, in addition to the universities that have already been named as offering M.S. programmes in the country.

Without the GRE, GMAT, or SAT, you can still apply for admission to American universities, but the American embassies hardly ever grant these students visas.

Therefore, it would be recommendable to give other exams as well. Also, scoring well on the IELTS exam is very important.

Most universities accept 5.5 IELTS in the USA, and if the IELTS score is less than 5.5, you must consider taking the IELTS Test again. While targeting an average university in the U.S. Universities, the candidates' IELTS score must be at least 6.5 or higher than that. Many universities also offer conditional admission in case the scores are lesser than the minimum required score needed.

The IELTS exam is generally required in most institutions because it demonstrates the candidate's capacity to comprehend common lectures or manage job situations. Therefore, one must work hard to achieve a score of 6 or above. So, before applying to the best U.S. universities for M.S. programmes, verify the IELTS requirements.
