Of course, a commerce student can do a data science program in the UK or in the USA. Both of these countries are extremely good for data science programs, and they have the top global ranked universities for it. In my professional opinion, you cannot find any better countries than the UK and USA for data science courses. However, you should know a bit more about this.
See, a data science master's does not require you to be from a technical background. It's not like you need a science or engineering background for it. USA universities have no such eligibility requirements. You can apply for a data science master's with commerce or an arts background. Having a commerce background actually may come in handy here.
These are areas in data science that are very commerce-oriented. For example, take business intelligence and business analytics. These specializations in data science are pretty popular and big ones. If you choose to follow a course related to these areas in data science, you will be more than paid for. This way, with data science, you will also have business and economic expertise that goes hand to hand. I won't go that far as to say that it's better than a science background, as data science is heavily involved in coding, programming, software and many scientific tools. But it's as good as any other background with some specific perks.
As I was saying, the UK and USA have top universities for these kinds of programs. Did you know that in the 2019-2020 school year in the USA, almost 1,075,496 international students were enrolled in their colleges and universities? They basically represented 4.6% of the total USA student population. Students from roughly 200+ countries come to the USA every year for their higher education and most of them are from India and China. So the chances are, you will easily get acquainted with other Indian fellows there.
For the UK, there were 605,130 international students studying in the country for the 2020-31 cycle. It is true that mainly European students enrol in universities presented in countries like the UK, France, Italy and Germany. But surprisingly, out of all these, just 152 905 international students were from the EU region and the rest, 452,225 were non-EU.
More than enough Indian students study in the UK and USA and most of them are from different backgrounds. Data science is currently the #1 study program in these two countries, and you can get in with a commerce background, no doubt about it. Just look for your dream colleges and data specialization first. If you need any help, I am here to assist. Just let me know what I can do.
