Electrical engineering is an engineering discipline that specifically focuses on the study, design, and application of equipment, devices, and systems that use electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. It made its appearance as an identifiable occupation in the second half of the 19th century after the commercialization of much electric equipment such as the electric telegraph, the telephone, and electrical power generation, distribution, and use.
Now coming to the present era Electrical engineering is now divided into a wide range of different fields, including computer engineering, systems engineering, power engineering, telecommunications, radio-frequency engineering, signal processing, instrumentation, photovoltaic cells, electronics, optics, and photonics. Many of these courses are closely related to other engineering branches, creating a huge number of specializations including hardware engineering, power electronics, electromagnetics and waves, microwave engineering, nanotechnology, electrochemistry, renewable energies, mechatronics/control, and electrical materials science.
Electrical Engineering Curriculum
The fundamentals that are taught in engineering remain the same or both Bachelor’s and Master’s. The Master’s curriculum is designed to integrate both research work and coursework. The duration of these programs varies within 1-2 years. The curriculum is divided into semesters. There are usually 2 semesters in a year.

Eligibility Prerequisites
To pursue MS in Electrical Engineering, -
- The candidate must have a B. Tech/ B.E. or equivalent Degree.
- IELTS/TOEFL is required in most of the colleges in abroad.
- GRE/GMAT is not mandatory in most universities, however if you score high in either of them, it can elevate your chances to get into your dream school.
- Any engineering student can apply. (Fresh graduates can apply too.)
- Technical Background is mandatory, so that you have a basic understanding of the subjects.
- Maintain a good GPA in your undergraduate course.
- Most schools require proof of English language proficiency. Usually, TOEFL.
- A work experience uplifts your application, but it is not mandated to study MS in Electrical Engineering in most universities. Although some universities, like MIT might have a minimum criterion.
Documents Required
The basic requirements for international students to get into any university are-
- Payment of the application fee – If you did not pay the application fee via online, then you need to submit the receipt as proof of your payment.
- Letter of Recommendations - A letter of recommendation is a reference letter, often written by a senior (professional LOR) or a professor (academic LOR). Letters of recommendation are also called reference letters, letters of reference, or simply, references.
- GRE, SAT, or GMAT, are not mandatory in most colleges.
- TOEFL or IELTS – Anyone is required.
- Undergraduate Transcripts - A transcript of a Bachelor's Degree is mandatory to get into foreign universities. They assess your overall performance based on your electives/courses.
- Bachelor's certificate (If available)
- SSC/10th or equivalent
- 12th/intermediate or any equivalent certificates
- Letter of Motivation - It is also known as Statement of Purpose. This statement is required by the admission committee (AdCom) to evaluate the personality of the candidate. This letter is a chance for you to impress AdCom, so make it personalized, and reflect the best of your experiences.
- Bank Statement – Colleges require your bank statement to ensure your economic position. In other words, they need it to make sure that you can bear the living expenses of that location. It is also called proof of funds.
- Study certificate or Job Certificate - The certificate of any course you pursued apart from your school and Undergraduate degree is required.
- Copy of Passport - The Photocopy of the first and the last page of your passport is also required.
- Proof of extracurriculars – If you took part in extra-curricular activities, please submit any certification or recognition you got.
